Types of Knee Pain

Your knee is an important part of your body. If it gets damaged or broken, it is possible that you will not be able to walk. There are a lot of medical conditions that the knee can experience. To take care of your knees, it is important that you know the different conditions that can affect them.

Anterior Cruciate Ligament InjuryAnterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury:  This injury is usually associated to sports, as this is commonly caused by sports injuries. The anterior cruciate ligament is a ligament in the knee area and is very important for knee movement. If it is torn, it can cause a lot of pain.

The reason why ligament become torn is because overstretching. When the knee is straightened more than 10 degrees beyond its normal maximal position the lower leg is forced forward causing damage. Since sports can sometimes cause you to overstretch your knee, ACL is associated to athletes. Too much movement of the knee can cause your knee to a tear.

Osteoarthritis jointsOsteoarthritis– This is one of the most common knee injuries. The reason why this can damage knee is because it is a condition that is associated with a breakdown of cartilage in joints in the knee.

There are numerous reasons why the cartilage can get damaged. One common reason is because of old age. If a person becomes old, the cartilage becomes weaker. If constantly used, the cartilage becomes so weak that it will break down. Another reason is obesity, because of extra weight, the cartilage can’t handle the body, thus collapsing.

Broken knee- This is a more related to accidents and it is less frequent. But it is also the most difficult injury. Since, the first two conditions will still let you walk somehow. Having a broken knee will cause the leg to be completely immobile, until the knee is healed.

This can happen if you get a very hard hit on the knee, causing it to be damaged or broken. This situations are usually related to hits by heavy or hard objects.
